Course description
This course introduces the concepts of the tax engine. It imparts knowledge on general tax requirements for banks (e.g. EUSD, country specific financial transaction tax, QI, FATCA, German tax, Swiss final withholding tax) and on how these requirements are implemented within the Avaloq Banking System.
 
The participants will become familiar with the objects used as input parameters for the tax engine.  Participants will also gain an in depth understanding of the business transactions involved in tax and how they are linked to tax requirements in general and in detail based on some examples.
 
Enhanced by several demonstrations and hands-on examples, the course participants will learn how to set up and maintain tax relevant input parameters on objects and understand their impact on the tax engine.

Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course every participant will:
  • Have an overview of the current international tax requirements.
  • Understand the general concepts of tax within Avaloq.
  • Be able to create and maintain tax input parameters.
  • Understand the different tax concepts available.
  • Be able to design a solution for new tax requirements.
  • Be able to plan and structure the parameterisation of tax based on a checklist

Prerequisites
Before participating in this course, participants must have either attended the course “Avaloq Foundation (FOU)” or have equivalent knowledge and experience with the Avaloq Banking System

Introduction to tax in general (e.g. EUSD, FATCA,)
Introduction to tax concepts in Avaloq
Tax impact on static data
Tax impact on business transactions
Design and Definition of tax input parameters
Design and Definition of tax calculation
Control and monitoring features
Reporting requirements
Pre-deal evaluation (before validation of transaction)
Ex-post evaluation/corrections (e.g. during night)
Checklist for introduction of new tax requirements

2 – 4 hours of self-study
We recommend that participants start the self-study phase no later than 10 days prior to the course. Please note that to be awarded full education points, all self-study exercises must be completed
